Northrop Grumman
|
In 2001, Litton Industries was bought out by Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC), an aerospace and defense company that itself was formed by the merger of Grumman and Northrop in 1994. With this purchase, Northrop Grumman became the third-largest defense contractor in the world, the largest radar maker for all sectors, and the largest builder of naval vessels in the world. It currently has an annual revenue of $30.7 billion, and 125,000 employees at hundreds of sites. 90% of this revenue comes from the United State government.
Northrop Grumman makes tons of neat equipment, ranging from the giant modern aircraft carriers used by the United States Navy to information technology systems. Almost every sector of the military uses something made by Northrop Grumman.
In addition, Northrop Grumman shares a space legacy with Litton. While Litton Industries built many of the communications and guidance systems that have developed into the U.S. space program, Northrop Grumman built the original Apollo lunar module.
